Gov. Whitmer OKs marijuana delivery service during COVID-19 outbreak :

  • All licensed retailers allowed to deliver product
  • Approval process expedited
  • Parking lot service also now allowed

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed Monday an executive order making it easier for marijuana consumers and patients to access product amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

Under the emergency rule change, all licensed marijuana retailers may provide home delivery service and allow for curbside pickup of products. Previously, retailers had to be specifically licensed for delivery, and sales were otherwise limited to the interior of a retail establishment.

The Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency still must approve home delivery services, however, in an expedited process that is expected to take 24 hours to 48 hours, the MRA said in a press release.

Under the temporary rules, delivery addresses do not have to match the address on customers' ID, a requirement under regular MRA rules.

Adult-use recreational marijuana sales became legal on Dec. 1, 2019. The state had recorded nearly $32 million in sales through March 1.

Feb. 24 through March 1 was the biggest sales week thus far, with legal marijuana sales topping $4.3 million, almost $1.3 million more than the week before, thanks to more recreational stores opening.
